HTC Touch Diamond - InfoSync World

InfoSync World have published their review of the HTC Touch Diamond (Sprint) smartphone. 'The Touch Diamond interface uses a multi-window desktop approach, similar to, but not exactly the same as Sprint's new One Touch application phones, like the Samsung Rant. There is a row of icons at the bottom of the screen, and you drag your finger to select the "Weather" screen or the "Programs" screen. The "Mail" screen will actually show you a preview of new messages, tucked inside an evelope, and you can flick through your new messages. You can play tunes from the "Sprint Music" screen and flick through photos on the "Photos and Videos" screen. It was all very nice looking, but also very functional. There was some lag in using the more advanced visual features, but the phone was usually spot on, and certainly as responsive as the best all-touch phones on the market.'

'The Chocolate 3 has very good music player software, along with external controls that make it easy to use it as your digital music player while you’re on the go. It has 1GB of internal storage and also takes Micro SD cards up to 8GB in size so you can expand its capacity to hold more music, pictures, and videos. Verizon makes it very easy to download songs directly on to the phone through its VCAST service with links to the online store in many menus, though we think it’s a bit pricey. Watching videos on the phone isn’t the greatest since the screen is pretty small at 2.2 inches measured diagonally. It can play back most of the common video types and didn’t have many problems doing so.'

CNET have published a review of the Samsung Omnia Windows Mobile smartphone. 'The Samsung Omnia is an eye-catching smartphone but in an understated way. It's simultaneously simple and elegant, with an attractive black-and-slate silver chassis and slim candy bar design that measures 4.4 inches tall by 2.2 inches wide by 0.4 inch deep and weighs 4.4 ounces. While light and compact, it has a nice solid construction and feels comfortable to hold and use as a phone. The handset isn't adorned with many external controls, rather, like its sibling, the Samsung Instinct, and the Apple iPhone, the Omnia is all about the touch screen. The Omnia features a 3.2-inch diagonal TFT screen with a 262,000 color output and 240x400 pixel resolution. The display isn't as large as the Instinct's (4.25 inches) or the iPhone's (3.5 inches), nor is it as sharp as Apple's starlet.'

Technology Reviews have published their review of the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic handset. 'The 5310's operating system is responsive and user-customizable with wallpapers, themes, ringtones, and more. What it doesn't offer is the ability to add applications - you'll be limited to downloading games from T-Mobile's T-Zones store, and not much else. It's easy to navigate and use the major functions - the camera/video interface is straightforward and creating SMS/MMS messages are a piece of cake. We like that you can start creating a text message and then add media to turn it into an MMS if you change your mind. Email is another story, however - with no native email client on the phone itself, you'll have to do everything on the web, though T-Mobile does include a quick portal offering easy access to the most popular email services.'

'The Blackberry Bold follows in the same design as most of the other Blackberry handsets out there and whilst not being the most stylish / thinnest handset on the market it does, surprisingly, fit into the palm of your hand snuggly. Weighing in at 133g it is very light when considering the dimensions the handset has. The front end of the phone could be described as having a very quiet top with the large 480 x 320 pixels screen, a sleek in the middle with the call, menu, trackball, back and call buttons and busy bottom(no puns intended) with the Full QWERTY keyboard which doubles up as the numeric keypad.'

IT Reviews have published a review of the Glofiish E-TEN Glofiish M810 pocket PC phone. 'Physically the Glofiish M810 looks distinctive. Its rounded corners and almost enamelled sheen are attractive. Its 2.8-inch screen occupies most of the front fascia with only two softkey buttons, Call and End keys and a D-Pad sitting below it. The sliding keyboard pops out of the left long edge. It makes the device a little large and heavy at 179g, 109.5mm tall, 59mm wide and 17.5mm thick, but the keyboard should allow you to work on mobile e-mail and type out text at speed.'

A review of the Palm Treo Pro smartphone has been posted over at MobileTechReview.com. 'The Treo Pro is an unlocked GSM world phone with triband 3G HSDPA that works in the US on AT&T and in Europe. Currently, there's no US carrier for the $549 Pro, so there's no carrier subsidized price. The good news is that you need not sign a contract if you already have a GSM SIM card (that means T-Mobile and AT&T in the US). It runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional on a 400MHz Qualcomm processor and it has 128 megs of RAM and 256 megs of flash storage. The Treo has Bluetooth, WiFi and an internal GPS. There's a 2 megapixel camera and an SDHC-compatible microSD card slot. Like the Treo 800w recently released on Sprint, the Pro has a 320 x 320 display but it has one wonderful improvement: a flush display with no raised bezel, which makes it easier to use the touch screen with fingers. The Treo Pro is Palm's thinnest phone to date, and it's the same thickness as the US unlocked GSM HTC Touch Diamond and the Sprint Diamond.'

''The Sprint Touch Diamond retains its black, glossy plastic front panel, but the jewel-like asymmetric angles and cuts of the original plastic battery cover have been replaced. Sprint fashioned the back of its Touch Diamond with a smooth, rubber grip in a burgundy color. The device measures 4.0 by 2.0 by 0.6 inches (HWD) and weighs 4.1 ounces. The top of the handset features a power button, while the left side includes hardware volume buttons and a silly "HTC Innovation" logo. The right side is clean, while the bottom features a mini USB jack that fits the Touch Diamond's included wired earbuds, USB cable, and AC power adapter.''

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the Samsung i8510 multimedia slider phone. 'This is a quad-band GSM phone with GPRS and EDGE as well as 3G to the illusive speed of 7.2Mbps. GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are all here too, and the Web browser is competent – there's even an accelerometer for flicking the screen into wide mode for better browsing (and other stuff). The 16GB (or 8GB) of memory can be augmented by microSD cards, and the slot is under a cover on the right edge of the phone. There’s a TV-Out feature too, though I didn’t get a cable with which to test this. The phone is a slider and it is a bit chunky in the hand and pocket. Indeed, it rivals my HTC TyTN II for size. For the record, it is 106.5mm tall, 53.9mm wide, 17.2mm thick and 136g. It grows to about 147mm when the slide is opened. The slide mechanism is smooth, but if you’ve smaller hands you might find, as I did, that the phone is a bit unwieldy for one-handed use.'

Pocket Now have published their review of the HP iPAQ 910 Business Messenger. 'I'm not really sure why HP chose to change their past design to this one, but I'm sure glad they did. In terms of specs, the 910 comes in with an Marvell CPU clocking at 416MHz, with 256MB ROM and 128MB RAM, running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The screen is 2.5" diagonal and is of QVGA resolution. It does Quadband GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and triband UMTS (850/1900/2100), plus adds HSDPA support. It also does WiFi b & g, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, and packs aGPS. The camera on the rear can take 3.1MP photos and includes a flash.'

A review of the BenQ E72 smartphone has been posted over at Tracy and Matt's Blog. 'The phone is easy on the eye with sleek styling that is very similar to previous BenQ phones, it feels small in the hand similar to a standard candy bar phone rather than a Windows Mobile Smartphone, however feels substantial and fairly weighty for a phone of its size. The front of the phone is fairly not eventful with not great design features that particularly stand out. The screen is a decent size with the 2 menu buttons located just below and the call buttons bellow that. There is a 4 directional button for navigation and in the middle of this is the select button. Housed on the red bar are the return & home buttons and sitting below this is the numerical keypad, no QWERTY keyboard for this smartphone.'

PC Advisor have published a review of the T-Mobile G1 Google Android handset. 'The T-Mobile G1 itself feels good, solidly built and with beautiful screen quality. Even when you flip up the screen to reveal the qwerty keyboard below, it's quick and smooth in a way you can tell it won't break easily. Flipping up the screen, by the way, is the only way to turn the view on the T-Mobile G1's screen sideways. Unlike other handsets that turn the screen view sideways when the handset is held sideways, the G1 only turns the screen view sideways when the qwerty keyboard is showing. We can't say we are wild about the T-Mobile G1's overall design. It's a bit thick and industrial, especially compared to HTC's last major release, the HTC Touch Diamond, which is beautifully crafted.'

InfoSync World have published their "Hands-On" preview of the T-Mobile G1 (HTC) handset with Google's Android operating system installed. 'The T-Mobile G1 (nice, easy name, by the way) has a somewhat unique design for QWERTY sliders. It's slightly curved at the lower end, the part that stays in place when the keyboard slides out. The keyboard and buttons were all solid, as we would expect from HTC, and even the trackball felt at least as good as any recent BlackBerry we've tried. The rest of the phone's case felt a little light in the hand. The plastics felt very light, perhaps a little flimsy, and the shell was a bit larger than we'd expect for such a light device. We think there is room to shrink this down in the future.'

PC Magazine have published their review of the Samsung Omnia SGH-i900 multimedia phone. 'From the front, there's no denying the 4.4-by-2.2-by-0.5-inch (HWD) Omnia looks an awful lot like the iPhone. And at 4.3 ounces, it even weighs slightly less. One difference: more buttons. Send and End keys flank the Omnia's dome key at the bottom. Along the right-hand side, there's a Menu button that brings up an ugly icon-based touch interface, along with hardware volume controls and a camera button. The left-hand side features a strap hook and a covered slot that houses the usual proprietary Samsung connector for charging, USB sync, and wired earbuds. The panel contains a recessed power button, while the back of the unit is mostly clean, with a brushed aluminum design. Overall, the Omnia looks and feels classy.'
